Caption Health’s ultrasound guidance software platform can scale to a breadth of clinical applications. It is currently FDA-cleared for the acquisition and interpretation of cardiac ultrasounds, and development is underway to apply our platform to lung ultrasound exams. We are also looking to expand our technology to other clinical areas where access to timely ultrasounds is a challenge, including vascular, abdominal, and oncology exams. Through these activities, we are ushering in a new era of ultrasound-based disease detection and management.
Platform Validated for Cardiac Ultrasounds
FDA Clearance For Cardiac Ultrasound
As demonstrated in a study published in JAMA Cardiology, ultrasound images captured by nurses without prior ultrasound experience and reviewed by experienced cardiologists were shown to be of diagnostic quality to assess left ventricular size and function in 98.8% of patients, right ventricular size in 92.5% of patients, and in 98.8% of patients for the presence of pericardial effusion. The study supported an FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and clearance for Caption Guidance.
Calculate Ejection Fraction Automatically
A paper published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging showed the Caption Health algorithm was used to automatically estimate left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) from the captured apical-4-chamber (AP4), apical-2-chamber (AP2), and parasternal-long-axis (PLAX) loops.
Looking At The Lung
An exciting $4.95 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is supporting the development of lung ultrasound guidance and interpretation through the Caption AI platform. Democratizing lung ultrasounds would help improve access in resource-limited settings with a shortage of highly trained clinicians and X-ray equipment, which could improve timely access to accurate diagnosis of pneumonia, pulmonary edema, and pneumothorax.
Empowering healthcare providers with new capabilities to acquire and interpret ultrasound exams.
